DEFAMILIARIZATION

Shklovsky’s focus in his view of literature is the notion of alienation or also called de-familiarization. This technique makes something common in our everyday lives, into something strange or unfamiliar. So to capture what the intent actually takes a long time. The technique takes the maxim “Art is thinking in image” which means that making symbols and the imagery.
“…. The definition of ‘Art thinking is in image’ which means (I omit the usual middle terms of the argument) that art is the making of symbol…” (Nurrachman, 2018, 41)
“Poetic imagery is a means of creating the strongest possible impression.” (Nurrachman, 2018, 42)
Those theory will be used to analyzed the poems in the following text, here are “A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns” and “Meeting at Night by Robert Browning”, because of the interesting words that contents in the poems. 

         a.         The Love Intense in A Red, Red Rose (1794) by Robert Burns
         1.         Literary Analysis
The poem is started by symbolizing Burns’s love with a red rose, and the emotional intense that elaborates further by following his love as a beautiful melody. The poet seeks to strike a balance between eternal and temporal forms of love in this poem. Reminding the readers of the fact that beauty is transitory, but love is eternal. Therefore this poem has expressed theme of love intense.
         2.         Structural Analysis
The form of this poem is a ballad, which divided it into four stanzas with four lines each stanza.
The rhyme scheme is quite regular; ABCB
The poet uses simile in the first and third lines of the poem, which compares his love with a blooming rose and sweet melody, therefore it expresses theme of intense love.

         b.         The Power of Love in Meeting at Night by Robert Browning
         1.         Literary Analysis
The poem contents of imagery that has been expressed in the first stanza. Within the illustration of a sea, land, and the situation that has been written by Browning. The illustration has created the strongest impression in the poems, and makes the readers easily to understand what Browning wants to expressed. Here is to express his big love to his girl.
         2.         Structural Analysis
The rhyme scheme is quite unique; ABCCBA
The poet uses the imagery to express the power of love. The imagery in this poem is quite strong that fill in each stanza.
The poet uses also the metonymy, to express how happy they are in that meeting
“…the two hearts beating each to each”
